The aim of HOTI is to defeat the proposals to build an incinerator at Saltend.

To do this, we aim:

1. To raise awareness of the proposal, the issues involved and the consequences for Hull and Holderness

2. To get the proposals turned down at both the Hull and East Riding Councils’ Planning Committees

3. To get the proposals turned down at any subsequent public enquiry

4. To maintain a civilised, well informed and honest campaign

5. To engage and involve as many local people as possible

It was been agreed that HOTI should be a broad movement of all those opposed to the Saltend Incinerator, whatever their views on incineration per se.

We recognise that we need to reduce landfill (which releases methane – a powerful and damaging green house gas)
and deal with our waste. However questions remain about incineration in general and the Saltend location in particular.

Why are the specialist environmental doctors at the Society of Ecological Medicine (December 2005) convinced that
incinerators should no longer be built because of health concerns?

What will be the transport impacts of moving 240,000 tonnes of waste by road? HOTI calculates there will be more than 25,000 return journeys,
i.e. more than 50,000 separate truck movements into and out of Saltend every year.

HOTI will continue to ask questions and make sure that the concerns of Hull and Holderness are heard.
